Works like a charm, just be patient
Works great! I had a major sedge weed infestation, and this knocked it on the head... but it took time, care and patience. I've seen some folks talking in reviews about unsuccessful sedge management, and figured I'd give some tips from my experience.
First up is correctly identifying your weeds. Some onion and garlic weeds look similar to sedge. Ortho will treat both, but (in my experience) it is less effective on sedge weed than Sedgehammer. Much less, actually. Sedgehammer just treats the stuff listed on the label, which is far less broad than Ortho. Get the right herbicide for what you have. Type "identifying sedge weed" into your search engine to get some great tips on how its done. Favor the "edu" sites over commercial ones.
Secondly, make sure you follow the directions. Don't do it when it's about to rain or on a wet lawn. Make sure it's the right amount of time between your mowing schedule. Check the growth of the weeds so that you know it's at the right stage that's printed on the instructions. Make sure your lawn and the weeds aren't under stress (plants tend to go dormant during stress times, meaning it won't "suck up" the herbicide). Don't just spray because you have time, get the timing RIGHT.
Lastly, be patient. As it says in the instructions, it can take weeks to notice the effect. Dark rings will eventually appear on the sedge, and they will eventually blacken. To help, I've attached some images of how my lawn progressed. I live in Texas, and treated this during the Spring. From start to finish, it was 5 weeks. The photos are pre-treatment, 2 weeks after (the first visible results), 4 weeks after (mostly dead) and 5 weeks after (all dead and drying up).
It's now July and some sedge has reappeared, but nowhere near as much (my lawn used to be about 50% sedge weed!). I'll treat again and let you know if there are any issues.
