Wish I had bought one sooner!
I love to take my dog with me to run short errands and such, but she always sat on the center console to see out the window and would eventually try to climb in my lap. I didn't feel safe, especially with two young kids in the car too.
I initially purchased the large for my dog, after reading several reviews and submitting a question. I have a 21 lb miniature schnauzer.
My dog loved it so much! But I did not like the way it took up every inch of my front seat; I drive a 2014 RAV4. She certainly had MORE than enough room in the large though, so I decided to buy the small and return the large. I had the small delivered before I processed the return on the large so I could post these comparison photos. My dog still has enough room to lay down (although not to sprawl out like she could on the large but definitely enough to lay down, especially with the cut out in the front). She mostly sits up to look out the windows during car rides (back and forth everyday to the kids' school and an occasional errand). So since she rarely will lay down, I'm opting to keep the smaller one.
I've photographed the two sizes next to each other so you can get a good idea of the size difference. Height wise and Front to back they are the same. Width is 5" smaller on the small size. Both are very light and extremely easy to install and remove if I ever have someone sit up front (we always take my husband's truck when he's with us so it will be rare that I need to remove it, but it's nice that it's easy).
