It's lit.
Wow. Just wow. There's really not so much more you need to know about this bag but just in case you do here it is.
Features of the bag (and what I use them for):
This bag is rediculously helpful for anyone pursuing any kind of education, I believe, even those substantially large course loads. It is equipped with everything to help you along the way, and I say this as a historically picky person when it comes to products and their usefulness. This bag has three compartments, one large one containing a fleece lined laptop sleeve, and ample room for books (I usually for two 2 inch binders in there with ease. In front of this big main pocket is a slightly smaller one that has a sown in organizer with a two fleece lined pockets one medium sized and one small, I usually put my kindle and calculator in the medium sized one and any magnifiers or other small scratch prone items I'm using in the small one. Aside from the organizer there is a sizable space in this pocket for other items which on a busy day I use for my laptop charger, index card case, extra index cards and my lunch, which reduces the possibility of occasional lunch explosions from effecting my laptop and important schoolwork in the main pocket. The last of the three internal pockets is a small fleece lined one located towards the top of the front of the bag which is helpful and large enough for carrying your phone, Chapstick, and even a few other easy access items. These features are all enough to make a lovely backpacking experience but that is certainly not all.
Perhaps the best thing about this bag is both the highly stretchable and usable water bottle pockets on the sizes which I use for my large glass Camelbak and an umbrella in the second one on days of questionable weather. And last but not least it's amazing ability to minimize its weight on your shoulders, literally I have packed this thing to the brim to the point where it was difficult to even lift off the ground but whamo! As soon as it reaches my shoulders it's like I'm carrying what a light load would feel like I'm other backpacks.
Comparison to other Northface backpacks:
This bag is a good medium sized bag that is useful for the light and even the heavy workload days of someone pursuing their bachelors. I am a science major and that usually means that I am subjected to numerous readings, large textbooks, and the pain in carrying around a relatively large laptop EVERYWHERE, but this backpack takes these experience as close they can be to being a breeze.
That being said, this bag is a larger one although it certainly is not the largest compared with Northface's Surge backpack.
If you have a relatively light course load or just don't need to carry around many books and such you'd probably be better off with the Vault, which I've seen many happy people walking around with on campus.
If you are pursuing your doctorate perhaps the Surge would be better for you with it's two large pockets, medium front pocket and small cellphone and etc. pocket. I actually tried this bag before the Borealis but returned it because it was a little bit larger than what I needed. Being a petite gal I am much happier with a smaller bag, and I definitely feel the Borealis one my needs without overwhelming my figure or having too many compartments than what I need, making it hard to keep track of many compartments to keep track of.
Overall, I am confident that this bag will last me far into my masters and perhaps PH.D. if I decide to go for it.
I would absolutely recommend this bag to anyone in any situation, especially those with medium to large course loads. This bag is a great middle ground if your course load tends to vary from day to day. Also if you have a small course load now but can anticipate it increasing in the future, this bag is a great place to start.
Northface is a great company and I really feel satisfied as a customer. I kinda don't understand why everyone doesn't have their bags. They are so useful and visually appealing that I am even considering buying my brother (who is in his senior year of pursuing a mechanical engineering bachelors) confident that he will find whichever model I choose appealing and helpful in his studies, even as a similarly aesthetic based person as I am.
So anyway there's my novel on how great this bag and company is. Oh wait did I mention their bags are made mostly of recycled materials as well? Just in case you needed another reason to want to buy one there it is.
$70-100 actually seems like nothing compared to how much pain this bag will save you. That's why I highly recommend it.
In other words for all y'all youngsters; it's lit.
