Main character Billy is a young boy living long ago, in a world with its foundation in real history. But, Genghis Kahn and his warriors have been given a magical twist to their history in Deadly Wands. Billy and his parents, and the other characters are well created, with complex and unique personalities, which makes them all the more relatable and believable.World building is a complicated process in fiction writing, even more so when the author must combine accurate historical facts with the fictional creation. Mr. Reilly has done a remarkable job of that in this book, the details are perfectly described, and the fictional elements truly enhance the story and the setting, without distracting or detracting from the plotlines at all.
