“The People Who Strive for Normal or Perfect or Respectable Miss Out on All the Good Stuff.”
Fair warning, my reader friend. All you can do is get a good grìp and hold on, because this story will toss you all around no matter how tìghtly you’re buckled in. A reluctant psychic; a loving but offbeat family; a confirmed bachelor, rule breaking, hottie private investigator; and a cast of outrageous geriatrics means there’s never a dull moment in Riley Thorn's world.
The title pretty much tells you the plot of this one. Riley rents a studio apartment in a run-down mansion whose occupants are the aforementioned geriatrics. And the dead guy. Riley has been denying her psychic ability (she denies quite a bit in her lackluster, rule-following life) but when she sees the murder take place through her door's peephole, she's willing to give the psychic thing a go if it will help her solve the murder.
While this crafty wordsmith excels in writing romantic comedies, all of which I recommend reading, I hope she gives us a lot more of this romantic comedy suspense. I laughed so much I made myself sick, and I was on pins and needles trying to figure out who done it. And these characters! Holy hilarity, each one is unique, quirky, larger than life, and so freaking endearing. I love them all and hope to see them many more times.
I don’t make a habit of demanding things from fellow readers, but y'all, you really, really need to read this book! It’s the perfect remedy for the outside world's chaos, and you’ll feel like you’ve just been to the party of all parties with your very best friends when you finally emerge after the last page. Quirky, foolhardy, and riotously funny, Riley Thorn is a definite must read!
