This wedge car seat is fairly firm enough to raise your height to better see road if you are short. It does also provide some cushioning. When it first arrives it seems too stiff, but I had already read other reviews to expect that, so after a week or so of use it responds good. It is 3 inches thick at the very back but about two inches where your bottom resides if you pushed the cushionall the way to the back. But but something to put the back several inches from the back of the car seat to get the maximum height if that is what you want. I did not want my height increased, I wanted something to absorb all the small road bumps. My newer car has stiffer springs and low 55 ratio tires and sends lots more bumps to my car seat than my older cars. I am six feet tall so I lowered my adjustable car seat to the bottom, and the cushion makes me taller than I need to be, but is does help reduce the constant small road bumps better than any other cushion I have tried.
