Worked perfectly out of the box....
The negative reviews I see here exhibit a blatant lack of understanding of very basic electronic principals, or a lack of any ability to observe the features of the included items, (which by the way does include instructions for the remote, if you take the time to look in the package. The instructions are teeny, but nothing a copier with enlargement can't rectify if you have aging eyes like mine).
For $20, this is a whole lot of fun.
My package was complete. The strip does have two 4 pin connectors, one male, and one female. It is obvious that you plug the male end into the short cord coming from the controller on my set. The polarity may not seem obvious, but it is of critical importance. The +12v is clearly marked on the connector with an arrow, and on my set, that lead from the strip is black (it could vary I imagine). This strip is common anode. If you don't understand what that means, you shouldn't be messing with LED's. The controller that I received, has a standard DC barrel type connector (2.1mm I think). I plugged in a 12V 2A power brick, (center pin +, sleeve -), and the strip fired right up. I only had 2 amps available, so I did not run all colors simultaneously. The auto and fade buttons worked well for this amperage for demonstration purposes, as did just solid colors. (I would probably not run it his way for a real long period of time, though I did run the fade mode overnight with no issues).
The remote has a plastic tab that must be removed to enable the battery. It works just fine. The range of control is adequate, though can be expanded greatly using a micro-controller, such as an Arduino, and a three MOSFETS with the proper programming. You could get real "disco" with that scenario!
Yeah, there is no "A/C adapter". One is not pictured or listed. This same supplier has a kit which includes one, and I wish I had seen that kit. Yeah, I got no power connector as pictured, you don't need it if you use the controller.
If you use a typically low milli-amperage 12V adapter (i.e 500mA, 750mA etc.), you are asking for problems. This strip uses 1.2 amps per meter with all 3 colors fully lit. Pretty simple math there. Do I need to spell that out?
You can also wire the 3 colors directly without a controller, if you do not want to use PWM based dimming, and just want the basic full on color combinations using a hard wired switch for each color, (soldering and low voltage wiring skills required). Same math.
If you need all colors lit on a 5 meter strip for a white color for a long time, you need a white LED strip, not this.
I cannot speak on the usage of the adhesive strip. However,sticking on a painted flat finish household wall, or any surface that is not very clean and smooth does not sound feasible though.
I am having fun experimenting with my set. If I blow it up, it will likely be my fault, not the vendor's.
I am very picky, but I have had quite a few laughs reading some of the negative reviews. You gotta' look at the percentages, not at one or two troll's comments.
