A GREAT bi-pod for the money! Well Built with some nice little touches! Worth every penny.
I am a 35+ year LE Officer and firearms instructor for the last 28 years. I teach Firearms to new police recruits for a living so I am on the range and shooting quite a bit. I also like to hunt. That's where my review comes from. I was asked to review this product and a sample was sent to me, but I am NOT being paid to review this, so this is my honest opinion on this product.
At first I was a little skeptical because how good of a bi-pod can you get for about $20? I mean really come on. But to my very pleasant surprise, when I got this and took it out of the box I was very surprised at the weight, and quality of this bi-pod. It is very well built, solid construction and not made out of some crappy materials. The springs are tight, the metal is solid, and I noticed a few little touches in this one verse my other bi-pod (from another manufacturer) that are better in this one, and this one is cheaper!
First off it comes without instructions. SO I am including installation instructions in my review below to help those that may not be sure. I also am making a video showing how easy this is to install, but you should be able to do it very easily from the photos and instructions below.
The first piece I looked at was the rail mount block. The piece that holds the bi-pod to the firearm. It is a good, very solid piece of metal, it is NOT aluminum, it is steel of some sort. But to save a few grams of weight they drilled out two holes in it to reduce the weight a bit without sacrificing strength. Good move. One thing I noticed that this bi-pod has and my other does not on the mount was a lock washer on the screw that holds this to the firearm. I know a little tiny lock washer big deal. But is you think about it, its a nice little touch when you don't want it working loose in the middle of a range day and ruining that one shot you wanted to make. Or hunting and moving through the brush and it works loose. This little lock washer will prevent that and that's a nice little touch. You can see it in the photographs.
Then I looked at the bi-pod itself. Nice construction, very strong, tight springs. so tight I could not stretch them by hand at all. That's good. I noticed another little feature that my other bi-pod did not come with and its a cheap thing, but a nice touch that shows they are thinking of the customer. The tension clip that holds the bi-pod to the mount on your rifle had a small rubber piece between the two pins that hold onto the mount. Again so what? Well it keeps the clip from falling out or getting out of alignment before you mount it and it is a nice touch. You can see it in place and removed in the photos. Also note the rubber padding along the sides of the bi-pod where it touches the mount. It cushions it ever so slightly which is nice and prevents a metal on metal rub or damage to your rifle at all.
When extending the legs of the bi-pod first thing I notice is the springs are strong! They take a little bit of muscle to move the legs, not to much, but enough that you know the legs are staying where you put them, up or down and extended. They "snap" in place with a satisfying locking sound. The legs have nice cushioned feet on them and they are wide and big. Good for most kinds of surfaces. The legs extend out with a push on a button and pop out some as they are spring loaded. The legs have notches in them that allow you to set and lock the length of each leg as you want. This will allow you to use it on uneven surfaces, where one leg must be a different height than the other. Another nice touch and good thinking.
After mounting this bi-pod on my Ruger PR it is really nice. Well constructed and a nice piece of equipment to add to any of your rifles that need a bi-pod (which are all of mine).
PROS:
Good Heavy metal construction
Strong springs to lock legs in place up or down
Spring assisted legs
Mount is solid metal and well constructed
Comes with hex wrench for installation.
Lock washer on mounting screw comes with it
Adjustable height settings on the legs
Independent leg height settings if needed
CONS:
No installation instructions
No paperwork at all with manufacturers name or information.
Only works on rail mount systems.
OVERALL: I really am surprised and really like this bi-pod. As a firearms instructor and avid rifle shooter, its much better than I thought it would be for the price tag of $20. I have other bi-pods that were much more ($100+) that are not much better if at all). Its well built, has some nice little touches that just make it easy to install and use. If you are looking for a really nice bi-pod for your rifle, and want one that is built well and is very affordable, then try this one out. I think you will not be disappointed!
*******Installation Instructions (Since none come with the bi-pod)*******
1. Remove all the parts from the package and get the hex wrench and the mounting block out.
2. Place the mounting block as far forward on your rifle as you can. This bi-pod only works with rail mount systems.
3. With the mounting block placed where you want it (screw should be inn one of the gaps of the rail) tighten the mounting screw until tight.
4. Now here is a tip to make attaching the bi-pod to the mounting block easy! SO please read: Place the hex wrench down between the mounting block and the rifle to push the mounting pin out from the rifle (see photo to see what I am talking about)
5. Loosen the bi-pod tension thumb screw almost all the way out. Position the feet of the bi-pod facing forward in the direction of the muzzle of your rifle. Once loose, then squeeze the mounting clips (see photo) and slide them over the mounting block mounting pin until the holes and pins line up, then once the pins are in the holes, tighten the thumb screw down all the way until it is as tight as you can get it with your fingers. DO NOT USE A WRENCH! If you over tighten this you can break it. Its tight enough trust me. :)
6. Now you can pull the legs down and they should snap into place.
7: To extend the legs, push on the button near the feet of the legs. You will see the notches in the legs for adjustment of length.
You are done! Enjoy. Hope this helps and if you just check out the photos, and later the video, you should have no problems using this bi-pod.
