I've got three Stihl's. A farm boss, a mini boss, and an 120 volt MSE 180C. They all have their place and time for use. This DeWalt fills in some more gaps. At 70 years with bum shoulders, I love to be able to use the corded MSE 180C. Of course I'm not always within reach of 120 volts. And yes dealing with a 14 gauge cord is heavy. However being able to pick up the saw and not have to pull start it makes it worth while. It has plenty of power for a lot of my cutting needs. A while ago my neighbor showed me his DeWalt 20 volt saw. He allowed me to check it out and use it. I FELL IN LOVE. Pro's 1. Plenty of power if you take your time and let the chain do the work. 2. Plenty of run time. I've destroyed pitch pines that are 12" dbh, 60 foot tall, and reduced them into pickup bed size using one battery. It's also been used on oak and cedar. Run time has not been the issue. 3. I feel the saw is well balanced. 4. It uses the same battery platform that my DeWalt 3/8 impact, and leaf blower does. Con's 1. The oil fill cap is wimpy, and should only be pushed against to open, on the one side that has the full support of the pivot pin. It was very tight when first removed due to no lube on the body. Once you understand the process and it's oily, it's not an issue. 2. It definitely pumps more oil than necessary. It makes a mess! I'm going to try a vegetable base oil and see if that slows down the pump. 3. There are no proper felling dogs, just a series of ridges formed on the case. This makes getting a proper bite more difficult than it would be with some dogs. 4. I'm starting to worry that the tightening system for the bar cover might fail. I find that it can loosen up during use. However it just takes seconds to re-tighten. I hope DeWalt reads these reviews and make the necessary changes that will upgrade this tool. Despite the con's I continue to be happy that I own it.
