I was skeptical, but it worked!
I won't go on and on about our success, but this booked WORKED, my 3yr old son was potty trained in 2 days and dry at night ever since. Here's the advice I took from the book: 1) Saying "Tell me when you have to go potty" instead of asking "do you have to go?" 2) Having my son help me gather up all the diapers and putting them in a pile for donation. Make a huge deal about this. 3) Putting diaper pail in the garbage. 4) Buying lots of big boy underwear that my son helped me pick out. 5) Checking in every hour or so, "tell me when you have to go potty." 6) TONS of PRAISE, he loved everyone freaking out and telling him how amazing he was. We still give lots of praise, and he's very proud of himself. What we didn't have to do, but is suggested in the book: 1) My son wasn't interested in the treats or reward chart. I used Cheetos the first day and then he was over it. 2) We didn't need to hunker down on lockdown for 3 days. It wasn't reasonable to not go outside for 2 days, I didn't want potty training to feel like punishment. We still took the 3 days to REALLY focus on it, but we essentially went about our daily routine and this worked for us. 3) Piggy backing on the sentence above, we didn't have to follow my son around constantly. She suggests NEVER letting your kid out of your sight for 3 days, not even in separate rooms, and honestly, that would have been impossible, and just leveled me. Overall, it gave us a framework for how to approach the training, and it was amazing how fast it all happened. Super grateful for this book.
