First... the video doesn't show the light from the lamp as good as it looks in person, look at the reflection in the TV for a more realistic idea. I thought it might look cheap in the living area of the house but it looks great, lots of compliments and no one realizes how inexpensive this floor lamp is. Square shape is nice and it's stable on carpet. The pattern in the shad is perfect and adds a lot of visual interest, it was the selling point. It is bright or soft as you want the dimmer is essentia because I prefer subdued light. Easy to assemble, watch the video in the ad before putting together to simplify. All the lighting modes offer plenty of choices. Remote is small but does everything it should. I like it so well I'm planning on buying another maybe 2 to arrange together as a 3 light set as a statement piece. Definitely recommended. Oh ya... I'm sure that your kids would like it in their rooms too.
