There seems to be a concerted effort, perhaps by the same people who want a White Men's Month, to add more male authors into the mix. I will just go on record and say I have been making a conscious effort to only read women authors so having access to more novels vetted through editors is fantastic. Men have plenty of platforms, reviews, and access to audiences and have benefitted from that system for years. If you don't want your free book written by a woman (with both men and women as protagonists), then perhaps you can show your support to men authors by purchasing their books. There is no shortage of men authors, including on Kindle. I would also point out that I did a search of past prime free months and there ARE male authors included. So this is also just a lie. Perhaps such people are upset that there might only be ONE male author in a group of authors. Hmmm, I wonder if that would bother a particular group of people?? What if that has been done for years and years and years? I can see how that would be frustrating. Once women and POC dominate the literary landscape for as long as men have and make up the majority of books easily available, reviewed, and marketed for the same amount of time, then I completely agree we should get to a mix that matches the demographics of our country. Then people can choose to read such books as they want. And maybe what we're finding out is that there is a great demand for such books written by women authors. In the meantime, perhaps reading some novels that require empathy and viewing the world from a perspective different from yourself, might not only make someone well-read, but also a more open person that might not complain via a review of a novel that there aren't enough male authors presented in a list of less than 10 novels, in one email, sent out once a month.
