GOLDEN BUZZAROUND EXTREME IS BETTER THAN MOST
I knew I wanted a mobility scooter after I rented a Pride Go Go for a week. It was one the provider had that was about 10 years old and very small. It did get me around, but it was small, slow, rough riding and didn't go very long on a charge. But I had a blast with my granddaughter who is 7! She got her little scooter, and I got mine, and we had so much fun I knew I had to get one! I researched all the scooters for over 2 months including Pride, Drive, and several others online. It's hard to find the scooters at providers so I had to do a lot of research on the specifications--very important. I paid attention to size of batteries, suspension, and size of motors and warranties. I found out that the manufacturers had a 2 year warranty ON PARTS ONLY! None of them carry warranties on labor even if it breaks down the first month. There are 2 ways to go with this in mind either buy from a local provider who supplies service or an online provider who provides in-home service At the end of my search I happened to see a Golden Buzzaround and thought that I would do the research and found out that there was a brand new model that had suspension (important), long battery capacity and a bigger motor which makes for a faster speed. Most go tops at 4 mph, but the Extreme goes 5 mph which is very noticeable. Think of it is 20% faster than the regular scooters. I finally ordered it online when I found a provider who was providing a Golden service contract for 3 years at NO EXTRA CHARGE! In addition they had a promotion to throw in a cart ($145) for FREE! That did it. I purchased it and have had it for about a week. It's a DREAM! It's fast, comfortable and has long battery life. It's more than the cheap ones you can get, but well worth the extra cost. As far as the service I haven't had any problems. If I do I'll update this Review. I got the 4-wheel for more stability although the turning radius is wider than the 3-wheel. Hey, I know how to back up!
UPDATE April 6, 2017
Have had the scooter for about 6 months and still REALLY LIKE IT! This one has a bigger and more powerful motor than many others. It is very reliable, and I can believe it goes 5 mph. My granddaughter on her scooter bumped into me, and the seat lever fell off. Must have hit it in a particular angle. I called Top Mobility and within in a day a man from Golden Technologies called and said he was going to send out a new seat instead of having come out to look at it. About a week later the new seat arrived, and I put it on, and it's doing fine again. I'm very impressed with the 3-year in-home service that Top Mobility included in the sale of the scooter.
UPDATE February 3, 2017
Have had the scooter for a few months and am enjoying it IMMENSELY! The batteries are great. Took it one day for an all day ride at a local RV show, and batteries lasted with no problem. Manual directs owner to plug it in when you get finished and keep the batteries charged up. I'm going by the book, and so far no problem. It says to not let the batteries go completely out. I took it apart and put it in the back of my Silverado pickup. Good suspension. Haven't had any trouble with it, and I've hit some pretty good bumps going over sidewalks, onramps, offramps, RR tracks. So far, so good. I still highly recommend it.
Update June 3, 2020
Had the scooter for 3 and one-half years. The transaxle went out last week, and I have found out that it will cost $1,000 to repair. Not worth it! As I talked to the repairman he told me that 3 or 4 years is about what to expect from these type of scooters. None of them are made in USA--only assembled here. He said figure about $1/day cost. I had a 3 year in-home service contract which ran out 6 months ago. Just after it ran out I had a front wheel bearing go out that cost me $120 to buy a new wheel from Monster Scooter parts (Golden Technologies works with this company) and now the transaxle repair. During the 3 year warranty I had to replace the seat and call a repairman out to tighten one of the wheels. Overall, it's a good scooter, and I will probably just buy a new one and get it with another 3 year in-home service contract and just figure it will cost me a $1/day to keep it running. It's worth $1/day to have the freedom that this scooter gives. Also, I just ordered a new set of batteries which haven't arrived yet. I figure that's pretty good consider that they don't warranty the batteries except 6 months to a year at the most. If I buy another one I'll have another set of batteries. (Hope they last until I need them)
