We changed to this fountain, from the Catit Fresh & Clear. I don't think I can be happier with the decision. The Fresh & Clear, while being a great way to get my cats to drink more water, was a beast to keep clean. With all of it's parts and little edges for things to gather, it at times, was a nightmare to clean. Also, if you didn't have the dome on just right, it would surely let you know with the racket it would make. This fountain on the other hand, is 5 parts. Bowl, pump, main inner housing, filter and fountain head. No where near as many edges to clean, a very nice large filter, and a much greater water capacity. When full the fountain is dead quiet. That is one nice thing, though...when the water gets low, it has a longer fall from the fountain head back down to the reservoir. So at that point, it does start to make a little bit of noise one would expect from a water fountain. Perfect reminder to add water! It does only come with one filter, so it might not hurt to be ready to order replacements soon after you know your cats (or small dogs) enjoy this fountain. That is the only reason I don't give 5 stars...the "water softening" filters are a bit on the expensive side...but it looks like you can use the slightly cheaper regular filters in this fountain. To address some concerns from other posters, I took a reading of the AC adapter with my infrared thermometer. I keep getting constant readings of 88 degrees. Nothing I would be concerned about at all. I've had Laptop bricks run much hotter than that. This is a great fountain, that my cats love to drink from. I am very, very pleased with my choice to change.
