I'll begin with a confession...
I'm a small boobed girl. Let's face it - sometimes it's awesome ("Can I get away with not wearing a bra today? Sweet!") and sometimes it's not ("This dress fits everywhere EXCEPT the boobs... cursed be ye elitist designers!" *shakes fist dramatically*). So as of this review, I'm just past age 22 and have never owned a push-up bra before, even though it seems the de facto purchase for many teen girls. I'd accepted the fact at 15 that my boobs weren't going to get any bigger than they were, so apart from one or two experimental bra-stuffing episodes, I didn't really bother with them. It's not that I am a huge supporter of "self-affirmations" - I could never get into the habit of staring doe-eyed at my insipid reflection while chanting, "You're a beautiful, gorgeous, sexy toothpick of a woman." (I imagine some people find a lot of good in spending so much time on self-affirmations in the bathroom, but it's bad enough for the rest of my party when I'm using 15 minutes just to do my makeup.) Anyways, there are just *times* when you need something like a push-up bra to make that damn dress work, when you want to look a little more proportionate than usual, and "just because." So let's get to it: I'm trying out various t-shirt bras at the store and my eye, as it usually does, wanders over to the push-ups. So I did what I normally wouldn't be caught doing: I tried one on. It didn't fit right - lumpy, strange-feeling, and... was it supposed to make my chest look like two large golf-balls were just... there?! This almost discouraged me from going further. "Just like my teen years," I sighed. But I didn't give up. Because you know why? There are times and hours when a woman's will is most tested, through strength of valor, struggling against all odds, persevering when others have long since fallen to the wayside like flies in a bomb raid to get what they want. To think how I pushed and strained every muscle of my being, trudging through millions of store aisles to see, finally, that sliver of light, that beacon of hope, that... I don't know, I've run out of inspirational rant juice to go on with. I bought my first Lily of France push-up at a local store, my second and third through Amazon. I got them in size 34A and they're all great. The padding is well-sculpted and holds you up nicely. However, you might learn from my initial, i.e. stupid mistake and take careful care NOT to machine dry it - the pads will twist slightly inside-out and create an unsightly line under your clothes. So far, the other two are holding up very well as I use them sparingly (because who do I think I'm fooling?). Not sure how these would be like for a bigger woman, but for anyone in the A-B camp, these are a Godsend. Hallelujah, now I can wear that dress. :)
