This is a great topper, but it will not turn your mattress into a pillow top. On a pillow top mattress, the fibers a much firmer and do not compress. This pad is like sleeping on top of a very thick comforter (it is amazingly heavy). It adds softness and is comfortable, but it will not cure a too firm or lumpy mattress. For her dorm mattress, my daughter uses this on top of a memory foam pad. The pad alone is too hot and firm. The two combined give her the most comfortable mattress at her school.
