Won’t win any awards, but solid at this price point.
There was a time when 4K UHD with HDR10 support would be unthinkable at this price point, those times have come and gone. And let’s be honest, if you are looking at this model it’s probably because of the price point and the value you get out of it. I can confirm that this model is nowhere near the bleeding edge of how good displays can look in 2020, there is no fancy OLED or the latest tech involved, you will get good ol’ LED display and it looks about as good as a 4K LED display can look in 2020. Maaaybe a little muddy at times but you can fiddle with your display settings to get the best out of the screen. If you have bought a 4K display in the past this is likely a lateral move for you at best, however if you are upgrading from a similarly priced TV that is 5+ years old I suspect you will find this a significant upgrade when you are watching 4K movies on streaming (just watched Howl’s Moving Castle on HBO and it looked gorgeous). Personally just upgraded from a smaller 32” 1080 screen from college without 4K or HDR10 and this was a big, very noticeable visual improvement for me, and not just because of the increased screen size. Pros: -Excellent value for price point -FireTV is great if you haven’t had it before, all the apps in one spot. If you don’t use cable and have lots of streaming services, it’s really nice having everything together at once. Alexa built in too, remote control pass through for consoles and some other cool features -While it’s not bleeding edge, 4k is still 4K and if you’ve got 4K media to watch or maybe a PS4 pro or something it’s really a big upgrade over 1080. -Nice and bright display -Sound quality is surprisingly good, was not expecting it to outperform my Echo speaker at times -Crispness is decent and bright colors look great Cons: -Bit muddy with darker tones -Contrast could be a lot better -Missing the bells and whistles you will get with premium screens -I can confirm that there is a subtle buzzing sound from the screen that is noticeable with no sound playing, after some fiddling I’ve found it is the backlight when it is turned up bright. You’ll want to turn the backlight down somewhat when you’re just browsing for what to watch, it’s not noticeable when you’ve got sound playing so you can turn it back up then Overall I’d recommend this for: -A mid-low budget setup for a smaller living room -A second TV for a bonus room or kids room setup -Someone who wants an entry point to 4K for their Pro console or who has a lot of streaming services which support 4K Would NOT recommend for: -Anyone looking for bleeding edge display tech or a premium living room setup -A media room -Any screen geek, I’m sure they’d pick it apart and wouldn’t be wrong to do so I’m enjoying it a lot so far.
