Ease of use, and toxin free, worth every penny to me!
Greetings from the Captain. This is my first review, and is inspired by a purchase that made me quite happy. For a few years I've been searching for a pan that was non-stick, didn't require a lot of effort to use/clean, and did it's job well. I was using a Green Pan(tm) which certainly seemed better than teflon, but had some lingering questions of it's own(although some had been resolved, and were allegedly due to a mistake by the person who wrote the promotional material for the company). After a couple of years of use, the Green Pan had lost it's non-stick qualities in decent portions of the cooking surface, making cleaning difficult much of the time, the food stick and burn, and made me wonder about the health properties of it in that condition.
The Waxonware pan was a welcomed relief for my mind in terms of health, and was an ABSOLUTE JOY to clean, as well as to cook with(yeah, the cleaning part of my kitchen time seems to stick in my memory more than the cooking sometimes). The first thing I made was eggs. The eggs slide around in the pan very easily, nothing stuck in the slightest. Cleaning was a breeze, I just rinsed it out under fast running water, with no dishcloth or detergent necessary! My next use was with some ground turkey and some vegetables. This time I didn't have to question how much of the effect was due to oil, as I did not use any, nor any spray. Nothing stuck, and again I was able to wash it in the same manner as before! Im not sure I can emphasize how impressed Ive been with this purchase, and how glad I'd once again spent many hours doing research, and this time finally found something that assured me was worth pulling the trigger.
I enjoyed the depth of the pan, and also enjoyed upgrading my lid to one that actually fit, unlike the last one I was using on my Green Pan. Again, that made cleanup much quicker, and also kept more moisture in the food. I purchased this in June of 2016, which is when the company had said it would have lids available. I didn't see any, but thanks to another review I found the TeChef tempered glass lid(11 inch), which I also very much enjoy. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B014LQV8GI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 If WaxonWare doesn't have a lid out by the time you read this(or even if they do), I highly recommend this TeChef lid.
This pan finally motivated me to write my first review, and in the interest of the Golden Rule, I have a lot of catching up to do!(on my other purchases) :) I plan to update this and other reviews over time, as I've many times found myself wishing others had done(I'm often meticuluous in comparing reviews before spending my money). I also plan to check for and answer any questions folks may post in the comments. If you found this review helpful at all, I'd be very grateful if you clicked the little link that says so. Best wishes in finding the right pan for you.
UPDATE 9/15/2017: Folks, I dont take any joy in writing this update. For months while washing dishes, I kept thinking that I needed to update this badly. I'm not great with time estimates, so sometime between 6 to 10 months ago, a couple of areas in the pan started to stick. The progressively got bigger, and worse...until I kept telling myself I should replace it. That finally happened when I was on a trip and rented a hotel room that came with a stovetop in it. The Captain may be a low roller, but he likes to eat healthy. I dont think this hotel provided cookware like "extended stays", so I went to Walmart intending to buy something dirt cheap for a use on my trip only, but instead bout a CeraPan (PTFE/PFOA free), being I recalled I needed to replace my WaxonWare pan anyhow, and paid about $15 for it.
A quick note about GreenPan, if anyone is considering that brand as well: I have a pot from them(got it at K-Mart awhile ago, not sure if I'd researched it at all), and whenever I warm water in it, I ALWAYS see some film on top of the water, regardless of how I clean it...I've waited far too long to replace that as well, but I'm not a high roller like many of the reviewers of some products I see on here. Maybe some of you can relate, and I wanted to give those seeking to be healthy without breaking the bank a heads up.
I think it's fair to drop at least 1/1.5 stars, and after reading other reviews that were written after mine, I'm debating whether I should drop more(I'll think it over for awhile). It WAS a GREAT pan for awhile, but it reminded me of a lot of marriages you hear about that start out great, but flame out rather quickly(almost literally for me, except my stove is electric instead of gas ;) ). I'm not bitter at this pan, I do have some memories of how nice it was at the beginning.
Once again, If you found this review helpful at all, I'd be very grateful if you clicked the little link that says so. Best wishes in finding the right pan for you.
