Works good when modified to fit.
I'd like to try to clarify a couple points I've seen in other reviews.
First, I had one of the $100 carts as well. Although it looks the same in pictures, it's a little bigger than this cart; so these cheaper carts are not necessarily the same as the expensive ones. However, for me, the expensive one had no advantage and I returned it.
Second, I prefer the inflatable tires more than the Malone's solid tire. Some people have complained about the tire smell and that would have been an issue for me, but my tires didn't have a strong smell. The inside of the box had quite an odor, but when I removed the tires their odor was only mild and it went away in a day.
I almost gave up on inflating the tires because I couldn't find a chuck for the valve stems. I checked all the pumps at my house and even in the local stores. It really needs an old fashioned screw-on fitting but those must be almost impossible to find these days. I finally grabbed the stem with some needle nose pliers and pulled it up enough to attach my compressor hose.
The cross bars that support the canoe are V shaped, and like the other carts, the V isn't deep enough for my Coleman Scanoe's keel. The keel hits the support bars so the canoe tips from side to side. That's why I deducted a star. To overcome this I made a small modification that worked great. I cut off the foam padding and screwed 2X4's across the support bars to raise them so the keel didn't touch first. Doing this allowed me to snug the 2x4's on each side of the keel so the cart always lines up centered and straight. I stapled the foam pads to the 2x4's so they still grip the canoe. I use 4 straps (35" heavy rubber bungee cords) to hold the cart to the canoe.
My Scanoe with the electric motor, battery, outriggers, throttle, steering, paddles, PFDs and other items weighs just under 160 lbs. I mount the cart near the center so it bears most of the weight and makes it easy for me to pull it around. One place I launch is about 200 yards to the river. Some parts of the path are smooth and others rough, but the cart stays in place. It's a real pleasure to use. I leave the cart fastened to the bottom of my canoe when transporting it on top of my SUV.
