In MHO, get this Presto Electric Pressure Canner, not the Carey Pressure Canner!
I absolutely love my Presto Digital Electric Canner. I have been canning for 30+ years and using my pressure canners on the top of the stove, so I have practice pressure canning, & water bath canning. I have canned 15 Quarts of kidney beans in the last two days using the Presto Electric Pressure Canner. The water from the jars did not leak out into the canner, not one jar siphoned, in the three batches, and it was the best canning experience I have ever had. I don’t have to watch to see if the pressure is staying at the correct spot, or constantly mind the stovetop dials. (I have a glass top on my stove and did not want to scratch it, thus the purchase). You do have to be there to push the knobs occasionally though in the Presto Electric Canner. Anyway, I have decided that I need another one to equal the amount of jars that I could get out of the stovetop canner. So, I will purchase that soon. This product is fail proof canning, and couldn’t be easier, once you learn the steps, following their directions. I just can’t say enough about it. The directions say that it holds only 4 wide-mouth canning jars for pressure canning, but I called the company and the sweet lady there said that if they fit, you can put 5 wide-mouth in the canner. One point—-if you feel that you would like to purchase the Carey Canner, give that another thought. I got that one, before this one, and was very unhappy with it. Every jar siphoned the liquid out of it. Also, the venting was never very good on my Carey. The cool down wasn’t as good as the Presto either. The quality and safety is in the Presto, and I always felt nervous about the Carey Canner. Anyway, that is my experience with both canners and which I like the best. Safety is upmost to me, and I did not feel safe with the Carey. The only thing I can compare it to is a small cheap automobile, compared to a very expensive automobile. You can tell when you get inside both cars, which one feels safer, and which one feels like it’s just done right. If all I could afford was the Carey Canner, I would save up to buy the Presto. That would be my advice.
