Quick metallographic examination
I bought one and out of curiosity and did a little examination on it at work. First, looking at it under a stereoscope, it's evident that there's been some cleaning done on the fragment. It's not one solid chunk like you'd expect if it were material cast into a shape to resemble a meteorite. There are lots of seams and fissures in the structure. I then did a quick grind and polish on the flat side, and the plane grinding step knocked a small piece loose. Examining the flat prepped surface, the fissures visible at the edges extend across the entire piece (again not consistent with any sort of cast replica). I moved on to the smaller piece that broke loose - mounted it in bakelite, ground and polished, and etched it with 2% nital (nitric acid in methanol). The metallurgical phase structure doesn't resemble any of the run-of-the-mill iron or steel materials a replica would be made from; the non-uniformity, the multiple seams and inclusions in it would be really tough to fake. I don't have the tools to do a chemical composition on it, but everything I observed suggests it's genuine.
