I would give this mat 4 1/2 starts. My husband would like to give this mat a negative number of starts. Point #1) The price. This mat is a great size and quality for the price. Point #2) The smell. I can only smell a bit of a plastic smell if I lift the mat to my face and huff. So to me, this mat makes no smell (assuming you use the mat as a mat and not as a dinner plate). My husband can smell the mat. He can smell it when he is within a 15 foot radius of the bathroom. He would rather we did not keep the mat. (We have only had the mat about a week, so I am waiting to see if the smell dissipates with use.) Point #3) The texture. The mat has dark blue and light blue 'stones.' Imagine that the dark blue stones are rocks. The dark blue stones are as solid as rocks, yet they are very smooth and lacking in height. Imagine that the light blue stones are bubbles of molasses. The light blue stones give gently to the pressure from your feet. I find that this mat gives a firm and revitalizing massage to my feet. If you are looking for a soft/squishy mat to have your feet rest like babies in a bassinet, then this may NOT be the mat for you. The texture of this mat is as polarizing to people as the Scion Xb. Either you love it, or you hate it.
