Took at least five years off of my life--not in a good way
I'm not kidding, this product about killed me. I've never spent more than $30 on a pair of shoes before (the only exception are my trainers), but a new job required nicer, less casual ones. I purchased two pairs of lovely suede boots after looking up how to care for them. I've used Scotchguard on other items in the past and decided to pass on the waterproofer that we sell at work for a brand that I've used and liked before. I read everything on the can and followed the directions. The can did not spray in a mist but in a thick stream and my light-taupe boots turned river-mud brown immediately. After the initial panic and crushing disappointment--then deciding that if they were ruined they would at least be consistently ruined--I sprayed the rest of them until it was uniform. They looked soaking wet and so dark I was almost in tears, resulting in researching any way to save them while they dried. Several hours later, they looked no lighter and hadn't dried at all. I took a hairdryer on the coolest setting to them with little hope that it would help. No joke, they started to lighten up. I dried them all the way through, brushed them out, and they are actually just as I bought them. The spots that didn't get sprayed (there are straps that buckle around the ankle that I didn't spray under) are the same color as the rest of the treated shoe. So, four stars because while the product worked without ruining my boots, I nearly had a stroke!
