UPDATE. PURCHASED 2017 NOW 03/2022. Unit is still running strong. I have not had any of the electrical issues that some others seem to have. Since my last review I have purchased 2 more units and those are working fine as well. I have also completely disassembled the first unit and cleaned it all out. I removed the little switch lever that can tell if an authentic filter is inside it. (Just disconnect the wires on each side of the switch, remove switch, crimp the wires together, done). By using my own filters (see below) I have saved enough over the last 3 years not buyimg official filters that this and the other 2 units paid for themselves. SIDE NOTE: the official black pre filters are expensive as well. You can search here on Amazon and purchase a large 5ft by 5ft sheet of the stuff and cut your own out to size. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I have had this unit for almost a year now. It's still very quiet and the fans run strong. It is running at least 12hrs a day. The black pre-filter only killed odors for about a week. Any replacement pre-filters only work on odors for about a week as well. I just vaccum and wash mine. The main hepa filters are very expensive to replace if you do it every 3 months like your supposed to. I just purchase the largest 3M filters (2 pack) for 18 bucks at Lowe's. You can cut 5 perfect fitting filters out of one. On the bottom of where you place the filter in is a little trip latch you will need to tape down so it thinks it has an "authentic" filter in it.
