I bought this table with a bit of doubt that it would work well for my elderly mom. I was worried that it would be too unstable and would accidentally be knocked over or unfold when accidentally jostled. Fortunately, with these minor notes and modification, I am fairly happy. 1) In my first photo, I point out a small peg on the U tube that should fit within the large clips on the underside of the top. This will prevent the U tube from sliding laterally, which would probably be unlikely to happen as the snap is a good fit. Nevertheless, this is obviously what it was meant for, but is not shown in the instructions. 2) As for the table accidentally unfolding if the "Solid Rod" unsnaps from the "Hooks", I drilled two small holes and used a twist tie to prevent it from unsnapping. Simply lifting the top would otherwise cause the top to unsnap and collapse. We've not only used this with the couch, we've also easily lifted the table and carried it into the kitchen so mom could help with some simple prep. I would have given this 5 stars if they had addressed these issues, but fortunately it's easy for you to hack. April 2020 UPDATE: I just bought my 3rd Table Mate XL. I additionally use it as an extra side desk while working in the office and I also bring it with me on driving business trips when I need to do desk work in the the room.
