Thoughtful upgrades
I have been contacted by this company to serve as an early adopter in exchange for a review. This is my third water bubbler from this company. While I have been compensated for my willingness to write a review, I am quite pleased with this unit and with the improvements that have been made. Earlier versions of the bubbler were criticized as when water levels drop too low, the motor could burn up. The unit I adopted in September (not this one) addressed that concern by adding an automatic shut-off and a red warning light as the levels drop into a danger range. That feature has been retained in this upgrade. The unit was still a lotus style unit - round - and came with only one spigot style - a daisy that shot out 6 streams of water. When my cats drank from it, they came away with wet whiskers and, while they didn't complain, I couldn't imagine they loved being wet. I also noted that very small particulate matter could escape the filter and fall into the tank. I routinely cleaned it and replaced the water, but about a third of the time, I would see cat hair or small insects floating. The changes this time seek to address this problem. They have adopted a square unit instead of round, but in the spot where the filter rests, they made the filter fill a smaller footprint with a sloped plastic lip that will direct any particulates into the filter. This is an improvement. Inside the tank, they have added a small sponge filter that rests in front of the motor. The pump pulls water in, but any small things get caught in the sponge. This is definitely an improvement. I have also noticed that the tank is slightly larger than my last unit. I use a filter pitcher to fill the bubbler, and while other units took nearly an entire pitcher, this one takes slightly more than that to get the water level close to the maximum line. They have also taken note of the noise bubblers can make. The older units became audible once the level dropped below half. I have had this unit a week, and while the level has dropped below half, the unit was still silent. Finally, they now offer two different tips for the bubbler - the older daisy model and a new one that only produces 2 jets. Cats can easily drink from the pan between the jets and their whiskers stay dry. And they've dropped the base line price of the units. Even better. Replacement filters I used on the lotus style bubbler cannot be used on this one, and the square filters come in a pack of 4 with 2 additional sponge filters for roughly the price I paid for 6 round filters suitable for the older versions. I can't say how long the sponges last, but I'm guessing these items will be enough for at least 6 months of use. Overall, I am really pleased with this unit. The company reads the reviews, thinks about how to improve the product, and changes the design accordingly. That's a refreshing difference for consumers. UPDATE AUGUST 2020 We have had no issues with the unit until this weekend. I had noticed the blue light seemed dimmer than usual, and when I took the unit to the kitchen for its regular cleaning, once assembled, the pump did not work. We disassembled the bubbler, cleaned it again, removed the sponge filter and cleaned that, and cleaned the pump. It now works, but the light is still dim and we fear the motor is about to poop out. I have ordered a replacement pump. With luck, it will solve our problem.
