Cat Finder!
This was a gift from my son who thought it would help when the cats give the slip in the garden. It does! Because of predators (coyotes, bobcats, eagles, etc.) I supervise all outdoor time but I also like to get a little work done meaning my eyes are not on cats 100% of the time. The little stinkers take advantage of this and hide quietly under bushes until they have me searching the whole property in a total panic. I believe this amuses them. But now with the key finder on their collars, the advantage is mine although I find I do need to be within 20-30 feet of the hiding place to both to trigger the alarm as well as to hear it. The beeping could be louder but it's a safe level for the cats and doesn't frighten them. The finder also works well indoors and will trigger through walls. I've uploaded a short video that demonstrates the key..now cat...finder in use. The first scene shows our gray cat reacting the very first time his collar beeped (shot indoors while the cat was in his play tent.) The second scene demonstrates the cat finder working after the cat sneaked through the fence to hide in the bushes around the neighbor's porch. The third scene is from our own garden where we have a dense philodendron thicket. Unfortunately, my cell phone microphone did a poor job of picking up the beeping during that recording but the sound was clearly audible from at least 20 feet. There is a set of ten rapid beeps with each button press (I triggered the beeping additional times out of frame in both the outdoor scenes.) Update after 5 months of use: The battery on one of the receivers died after what I estimate to be about 700 activations. Not a big deal since the replacement is the very common 2025 disc battery BUT I also dropped the sending unit about 4 feet onto concrete which caused it to stop working. I immediately ordered another set from Amazon and was hoping not to have to change out the receiver fobs on the cat collars but alas the new sending unit was not compatible with the old receivers so I had to break a few nails switching to the new fobs.
