What a healthy looking tree.
I have always been looking for an indoor plant that produces flowers and possible fruit (ornamental or for eating) and I happen to come across the pomegranate tree, just because tangerine and lime trees were too costly. **(4/6/13) - First Entry** But enough of my liking of bonsai trees, this tree came in perfect looking health. The leaves are green and there are a lot of them. The box I got it in looked extremely well packed, the plant was completely safe and unharmed the moment I took it out. In addition to that, the shipment arrived around 6 days sooner than what I was expecting. The tree, I measured, to be around 10 inches tall (from soil to the tallest part of it), which comes to me at a surprise for some other pomegranate trees that are around that height. I do not know the age of the tree, but there are other pomegranate trees out there that states they are 5 years old or 6 or 7 that are about 10-12 inches tall and $50-$60, but don't criticize me too much on that because I do not know how large they can grow. Also, I'm uploading an image to show the bonsai tree that I got. I do recommend this tree to anyone, I am growing it indoors, it looks really nice. Still I wish I knew the scientific name of this pomegranate tree for I know there are different kinds. ___Quick Info___ -10" tall from soil to the tip -No bugs found in the soil -Looks really healthy, new light green leaves are coming out of the plant -Have not moved it to another container yet, planning to do it soon though (4/13/13) - Update (1st week) I just transplanted it into a new pot and it started to wither overnight (Man was I worried), but around an hour or two in sunlight and delicious water, all of the branches and leaves perked up again. There are no significant change in height, but I can see that more leaves are coming out on the top branches. For 3 out of the 7 days for the first week I've had it, I used a grow light instead of direct sunlight and the tree doesn't seem to be bothered by it. __Quick Info__ -Very little to no growth (height), but leaves are coming out and it looks quite lovely -Quickly to recover from shock after transplant = A+ (4/20/13) - Update (2nd Week) -Just after two weeks of receiving a miniature tree that was barely reaching 10", it is now 1'1"-1'2" tall. -Super fast growth and fast recovery because I over watered it a couple of times, but letting it dry out and then watering it again helps. -No root rot. Strong and resistant plant. (5/31/13) - Update (Probably my last one unless there is a significant change) -I planted it in the ground and the trunk has gotten quite big and it got a little bit over 2 feet tall. To me it doesn't look like a bush like dwarf pomegranates should and it doesn't fully look like a tree either. =I had to start trimming down some of the leaves on the trunk near the bottom. -Very fast growth -Very tolerant of hot days -Very drought tolerant (left it for 5 days in super sunny days and it was fine) - Or maybe the rainstorm right after those 5 days saved it - but still it did a good job surviving on its own -**DEER RESISTANT** - I have had deer families roaming through my yard and eating everything up, but this little pomegranate bad boy was able to repel them. I am hoping to see it bloom a little next year (hopefully), but still it is a good plant to take care of and a lot of people do ask what type of plant it is when they come over. (8/2/13) - Flowering Occurred -The flowers haven't hatched yet, but I posted a picture and you can see the buds appearing on the plant now. -Height changes are not significant, but after a little under 4 months, it is already starting to flower -Very healthy still and easy to take care of. UPDATE: (12/20/13) -Over summer, I snipped a couple of branches (trimming) off of my pomegranate tree and planted into the ground (no root hormones or anything). About 4 out of the 7 that were planted into the ground took root and started branching themselves. I gave them away as small little gifts (hence no picture sorry guys, unless I go to their places), but according to the people that received them, their little tree is flowering too and growing extremely fast. -So I would say that pomegranate trimmings that take root can be easy (well not really easy, but just plant and hope that luck is with you) and they are (almost) free gifts. (Nice gifts too for people who want some live plants). Recommended? Yes
