Yep. They got bass
I have/had the following headphones from all different price ranges. Prices are what I roughly paid at the time and may differ. MEE audio M9 classic ($10), Skullcandy Titan ($20), Klipsch S3M ($25), Sony MDR-XB50AP (these $30), Senheisser CX3.00 ($30), Beats Urbeats2 ($100), Sony h.ear MDR-100ABN over ear ($200).
I won't get into too much about the other earphones and focus more on these since all earbuds are basically different in its own way. Here's my 2cents on these.
SONY MDR-XB50:
Build quality/aesthetics = 9/10 Build quality looks really good and is pleasing to the eye. Cord feels durable and seems to be tangle free. Everything is made of plastic. Cord noise from rubbing is not bad on these.
Sound: 9/10 First off, BASS, it's definitely there. And it actually sounds pretty good. No distortion, clean, and can get deep. Doesn't seem to drown out the mids or highs. Personal preference but I would have gave this a better score if the mids and highs were slightly more crisp or clarity like the Klipsch and Senheisser. I like to hear more "sizzle" in drum symbols and separation. These seem a bit more "muffled" in the mid to high range when compared all the other headphones I have. Compared to the Klipsch and Senheisser, these are noticeably louder at the same volume level. I felt the sound is more "in your ear" with these.
Mic control: Mic works, it's clear enough for calls. Only tested on an iPhone7+. One button controls all. For controlling tracks, one press play/pause, two press skip, three press previous, hold down Siri. Simple and works good.
Comfort: 9/10 These are surprisingly comfortable in the ear and stay in place. At first they did hurt my ears because the housing is bigger but I think that may be just my ears but they got use to them quick and haven’t had anymore issues. These block out sound very well for not being noise canceling. At loud volume compared to the other headphones, these do not leak sound not nearly as much. So listening at loud levels shouldn't be bothersome to your neighbors.
My son has been using the Senheisser Cx 3.00 and liked these better and wanted to keep them for himself. For me, I like them a lot too but I feel the the Sens had a slighter edge in overall sound quality to me because of the crisper mids and highs. Out of all the headphones I've had, the Sony h.ear over ears had the best all around sound and clarity. But that's not to say the less expensive phones can't compete or aren't good enough.
I like all types of music so I tested listening to various tracks from just to name a few:
John Legend, Eminem, Kanye, Tupac, the Fray, Darius Rucker, Aaron Lewis, Ziggy Marley, The Weeknd, Hans Zimmer, System of the Down, Boney James
Would I recommend these, yes these definitely should be given a try.
UPDATE: 6 months later. After a lot of use they are comfortable and my ears got use to them. I actually really like these earbuds and find myself using these more than the Senheissers. I really like that I can have these at higher volume and they hardly leak sound. Even when out of my ears! I use these at work a lot (office setting) and these are great. Don't have to worry about colleagues hearing them while I tune them out. Perfect! Oh and they sound VERY good for the price.
