I just moved into a new apartment and I had a line of little ants climbing up my kitchen counter, investigating my snack pile in the first few days. When I say "line" I mean I could trace their path and find maybe 10-15 ants at a time. I plugged this in on the lowest setting (green) and within a day the line disappeared. I do still periodically see a scout here or there, braving the ultrasonic scream, but I've only had it plugged in for about 2 weeks and they are getting less and less frequent. You need to be patient and give the little ants a chance to move their home, but it does seem to work! FYI: You CAN hear this when you turn it on its max (red) setting, so if you have a bad infestation, you can turn it on high while you're out of the house, but you wouldn't want to live with it there. I have two cats and they also appear to be unable to hear it on the low and medium settings. My only gripe is that it is sized in such a way that it covers the other outlet plug so I lose that whole outlet. But for me, it being a cat-safe pest control is worth the trade off of losing an outlet.
