First of all, my cat loves this fountain so I’ll be purchasing another one at my local PetSmart today. Now on to the really annoying parts of this... you have to clean this thing weekly. It gets slime on it otherwise and the pump filter will noticeable get bad after the first two weeks. Personally, I change it out every 3 weeks by rinsing it thoroughly again. While cleaning it, be very careful. The ceramic breaks very easily. While taking it apart this morning for its weekly cleaning, my hands slipped on the big ball part of it and it broke in the sink. It fell maybe 2 inches out of my hand. I really wish they would offer a replacement of just the ceramic top piece, but alas, they do not. I would also suggest emptying out the water every 4 days because cat hair and other gunk will be in the water. I’ll be filling my sink with water now too...just in case that slippery thing falls out my hand while I’m washing it. You do not have to buy the cleaning kit; a baby bottle cleaner would suffice. Make sure to clean that plastic part that holds the filter as well! Edit: PetSmart doesn’t have it in stock. I bought another one from amazon. My cat will have to drink out of a ceramic bowl like a pleb. I sat her down to break the bad news and she didn’t seem to mind too much.
