Cats (2019) is the best film of all time, paws down. Tom Hooper already showed he can master Broadway musicals on screen with Les Mis, so I’m glad he was given the pick of the litter that led him to direct this cat-sterpiece. Let’s start with the cast: Practically Purrfect in every way. Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, and Jason DeRulo should really seek out musical careers, they are that good. Idris Elba is magical as Macavity, but he was so evil that it made me so mad that I was furryous. Ian McKellen must have been studying cats before this film, much like Andy Serkis studied apes for King Kong and Planet of the Apes, as he acts EXACTLY like one, it’s uncanny. Now, for the real treat: the CGI, which must stand for Cats Gorgeously Identical, because they really made the people look just like cats. Cats will make Skimbleshanks, Mistoffelees, Bustopher Jones, Rum Tum Tugger, Rumpleteazer and Mungojerrie into household names. I’m so jellically jealous of anyone who got to take part in this piece of cinematic hiss-tory. At the end, the crowd roared. Who wouldn’t enjoy this timeless tail? I can’t wait to sink my claws into the Blu-ray!
