Good Job Epson -- A very good printer for home use!
3 Years Later
----------------
This printer is still going strong! No real complaints other than needing to clean the print head after the printer has been inactive for more than a month or so, but I think that's pretty normal.
We've been pretty happy with this printer to be honest. I'm sure there are better out there, but for the price, I'm not going to complain too much!
---------------------------------------------
I purchased the Epson WorkForce WF-2760 printer for use by my wife and I as a home printer, mainly for photos and color worksheets for our son. The goal was to get something that was very simple to use by my wife, and that could be located in the closet next to my larger laser printer which will handle the bulk of our black and white printing needs.
Included in the box were the printer (packed nicely with tape to hold all flaps / drawers / covers closed), a simple power cord (around 6 feet long), an instruction packet with driver CDs and four ink cartridges. While other reviewers have claimed these are full sized cartridges (as it is usually customary for manufacturers to cut costs and ship with almost empty introductory cartridges), my cartridges clearly say "Introductory Cartridge" right on them. However, so far we've printed around 10 full sized color photos, and they all state that they are full, so perhaps they are fully filled. The box includes no sample photo paper as some other printers have in the past.
Installation was very simple. The touch screen on the printer itself walks you through each step. I declined to setup faxing as we don't have a landline phone to our house and will never make use of this feature. It was also simple to setup wireless networking and it found my home network quickly and connected without an issue. Upon completion, you can print a network connection report, which also lists the current IP address to use to connect to the web interface and setup other features such as Apple AirPrint and Google Cloud Print. Both of these were simple to setup and work great, both on my wife's iPhone and my Google Nexus 6 Android device. Overall, I have no complaints with the setup process.
I then moved on to configuring my wife's MacBook Pro and my Windows 10 machine. My windows machine found the printer on the network automatically, and the MacBook, when asked, found and installed the drivers. I never had to download anything extra, and both computers were able to print immediately.
Overall, print quality is really good. We were using plain copy paper at first which yielded rather impressive photos, all things considered. Switching to some older photo paper we had laying around produced vary high quality prints. While I haven't researched whether or not there are archival quality ink cartridges for this printer, for everyday printing needs, this printer is more than sufficient.
Pros:
- Works with AirPrint (allowing my wife to print photos right from her iPhone) and Google Cloud Print
- Simple operation and installation
- Good quality printing
- Ink cartridges seem to be well priced, and high capacity versions are available.
Cons:
- It's really quite a loud printer. While ours will be living in a closet, it would be pretty annoying if it were on the desk next to me or in a small office environment.
- There is no dedicated photo paper feeder. Not a major issue, but AirPrint will only print on the size paper loaded. Which means, if you want to print 4x6 photos, you have to switch to this size paper in the printer so it reports that size to the Apple device. This is a limitation of AirPrint, but having a separate photo paper feeder I believe would help with this.
Overall, I'd give this printer about 4.25 stars.
