Almost had a heart attack with this stuff but now I'm a believer!
Just purchased my first LV monogram bag and it has vachetta leather trim all over the place. I knew that the leather was very delicate but after hearing horror stories about how easily you can stain the leather I was afraid to use it without protecting it first. I tried this because it was so highly rated and trusted by many. Just to show how delicate the leather is, just before treating the bag I washed my hands to make sure they were free of oils and lotions. I had forgotten that I had a wet band-aid on my finger and picked up the handles of my LV. Almost immediately there was a huge dark water stain on my handles. I couldn't believe it! So I prayed that it wouldn't leave a permanent stain and thankfully it dried up and disappeared, but it just proved how necessary it was to treat it first before using. I sprayed the Apple Care on all of the vachetta areas lightly at first. Make sure to protect your work surface for all of the overspray. When sprayed lightly I can see the coverage was even but not really complete ...so I literally sprayed until each area was completely covered. I'd say it was pretty liberally covered. I know the instructions were to do light even strokes..well I just went nuts on it and sprayed until I was sure I didn't miss anything. The leather was soaked, but returned to normal color within 10 minutes. It dried before my eyes really. I wiped up with paper towels any overspray and dripping. So it wasn't surprising when I found that some of the overspray caused a couple of small areas towards the bottom of the bag to get stained by the Apple Care from using too much and it pooling around corners. I was heartbroken and ready to accept that I goofed by using too much. But low and behold 2 days later those dark areas "evaporated" and returned to normal. So no treatment stains after all. Whew! So does it work? Yes!! I can touch the bag with completely wet hands now and the water just beads up on the vachetta leather. No more absorbing, no water stains. It just rolls right off. My suggestion for applying this spray? Rather than chancing it like I did, either use an applicator or swab to apply evenly or do light coats..only applying another after each coat dries. This is probably even more important if you're treating a used bag. Mine is new with no dirt or oils so the liberal treating had less of a chance of pooling into dirty spots. I also tested the spray on the shoulder strap and bottom of my bag first.
