Despite all the pretty instructions and manuals
In reading other reviews I felt a need to share my own experience in using Brother Scan n Cut 2. I have CM650 model which gives 12x24 cut/scan option but this review applies to CM350 model. First of all, and this is very important, the machine has a VERY steep learning curve. Despite all the pretty instructions and manuals, prepare to invest a significant time into learning on how to understand the machine and the way it operates. Youtube has a tons of manuals/tutorials and how-tos, so explore, do a lot of trials and you will be much happier with this machine. You WILL make mistakes, you WILL cut though your mat, you WILL mess up. If you are afraid of failures, this is not the machine for you. Second, and I must say this is equally important, I bought my machine from a local sewing dealer and I signed up for the introduction class. The class helped me a LOT to navigate through the machine and explore its possibilities. My impression after the class - creativity overload. I can hardly think of a project that is not a good fit for this machine. I highly encourage all the owners to find a class for this machine, or, at the very least, watch youtube tutorials. Third - like any other machines, it will need maintenance and accessories. In addition to what the machine came with, I invested in a different blade to exclusively use for fabrics. The one that came with the machine I use for paper/vinyl. I also invested in 12x24 standard mat and 12x24 scanning mat. I intend to use this machine to cut cuffs/collars/collar bands for shirtmaking and I successfully converted one of the shirt patterns for use with this machine. Please, please, please, for the love of puppies, READ the manual. It is your bible. It tells you invaluable information about this machine. How to clean the mats, how to make them re-sticky, how to prepare fabric etc. I wish I could just insert the fabric and it would come out all pre-cut for me but this is not the case. You need to follow guidelines on how to prepare fabric or any other material to be successful. This machine has endless possibilities for anyone who is willing to invest into both a purchase of this machine and a time to learn it properly. I am attaching some of the projects I made using this machine in the last 2 days. Happy crafting!
