If flies had a hell....
I got the 1 Quart trap, after debating about whether or not to get the gallon, I should have gotten the gallon, but I will explain a bit more why in a moment. I bought this product because I have three dogs and the trash can we throw away their waste in gets a large number of flies which sometimes make there way into the house.
I received the product and figured I would mix the bait using my kitchen sink. That was a poor choice on my part, I spilled a bit and every fly around my house came swarming in, my dog also went crazy. I ended up having to wash my counters with vinegar and Lysol to get the smell out. Needless to say, it was my fault, not the product, but be forewarned.
I put out the product and a day went by and nothing was happening...then two days...then three days...and then I started to get a little angry at all the reviews that talked about how effective it was in their yard and around their house.
Then, at about a week, the product some how hit the critical mass with a few dead flies and its smell combining into this powerful magnetic force that drew all flies and future born flies within a ten mile radius to come to this 1 quart container. It was spectacular and scary, and a wee bit icky, but I kind of go out and look at it with sheer fascination. It's now been about week three and the 1qt container is filled very close to the top. The initial water that I put in is only a fraction of the container and more and more flies keep piling in. I sense that they are feeding off the rotting corpses of their fellow dead.
I took a picture of this product and so has someone else recently. You really should know before you buy this product, just what it is. It's like a death trap for flies thousands and thousands of flies; that's how many have to be in there to figure in the sheer mass of this product. If you are someone who is squeamish and never want to see the flies or have to deal with this later on; then stay away from this product. If you are someone who enjoys seeing the slightly prolonged death of flies due to the sheer weight of other flies, then yes, this product is for you.
I give this product four stars for a few reasons. 1) There is no way that you can leave this product up "year round" as advertised. It's been three weeks and this thing is kind of absolutely disgusting. 2) There is no way in HECK I am ever going to dump this thing out and re-use it. That would require way to much of a relationship with the flies in this container, which I refuse to have. To remove it was disgusting, but I tied it with a shoestring so I could cut it easily. I actually sprayed it with flying insect spray because I had so many flies swarming on the top of this thing. After I let those ones die away, I put it in a plastic bag and then put it immediately in the trash on trash day.
I also worry that it might work so well it is potentially attracting flies, but I might try the gallon container in the future and see if that can cut down on how fast this thing fills up.
**So, it's been about a year later, I thought I would "buck" the system and get the cheaper plastic bag versions of this fly trap that I have found at Walmart. Yeah, no where near as effective, nor as easy to use. This one still stands out as the best version of the product that you can get.
