Good for beginner camping family with toddlers and dog
This was our first time camping, and we of course decided to go when it was over 90F, torrential downpours, a timid dog (couldn't find someone to watch her), a rascally 1 year old and 4 year old, and an unhandy husband (who was able to get this tent together which says A LOT!). The first night, there were bad thunderstorms for over 10 hours and the tent didn't get wet (except for the rain brought in from the million bathroom breaks throughout the night). The second night, it rained again. I was a bit worried because of other Coleman tent reviews about having to pre-treat with waterproofing polymer. We didn't have time to do that and I thought it might actually damage the tent. Therefore, we just used the tent as it arrived from amazon (it did come with a gray rainfly) and a tarp (also from amazon, it was @ $15 or so) underneath. I think buying the tarp/tent pad is what's key for the rain and maintaining the tent bottom. There was a lot of space. On one half, we had a a queen air mattress. On the other half, we had a pack and play, cot, and dog bed. With all of these beds, there was still space to walk around and have "stuff." The closet was also very helpful because it had a mesh hammock type of thing for us to throw our packing cubes and shoes.
