Being tired of watching my favorite British programs hacked to pieces by PBS to fit into arbitrary time frames, and seeing those edits carried to the American DVD versions of such programs as Inspector Lewis, I decided to take the plunge and buy a region free DVD player so that I could buy the DVDs from Amazon UK in their original, uncut form. This tiny unit (it likely will fit into any space where you could put a medium sized hardcover book) was as simple to set up as possible. One set of component outputs plugged into my tv (component cable included), US adapter popped onto the electrical plug (comes wired with a European plug but the US adapter also comes in the box), and the unit was ready to go. I had seen other reviewers complain that the instruction sheet and the default onscreen language is in Spanish -- this is correct, but the remote is labeled in English and it is so easy to navigate to the preferences menu once the unit is plugged in and reset to English that it really is no problem at all (I do not speak or read Spanish, but if you've ever set up a dvd or vcr player with on-screen programming, it will not be a problem). Dropped in a European dvd that I had from my last trip overseas and it played perfectly. All in all, a perfect, inexpensive little solution to those who want to watch non-US dvds. One word of caution, when ordering, a pop up offered an HDMI cable bundled with the dvd player for an additional $1.99. Since I would have preferred to run the signal through HDMI, I ordered the bundle; however, the unit DOES NOT HAVE an HDMI output. Since the cable was so inexpensive and I know I will put it to other use in the future, I am keeping it and not complaining, but please note that there is no need or reason to buy this cable to use with this DVD unit. The DVD player comes with the cable (component video) and everything else you need in the box -- all you need to add is your TV and your non-region 1 dvds. Buy with confidence and enjoy!
