A good quality, sturdy press.
A simple idea that makes cooking prep easier & faster. We make large batches (several dozen) of hamburger patties at a time to cook & freeze. Whenever we need a quick meal it's easy to defrost & heat in the microwave. I make up a batch of seasoning/tenderizer to mix with the ground beef & venison, add a little bit of breadcrumbs & they stay nice & juicy even after being frozen. Anyhow, this quality press is made of aluminum & very heavy compared to those cheap plastic versions. My husband attached it to a board which he sanded & sealed, then glued a rubber mat to the bottom. This prevents it from moving around while using it. It's best to use wax paper squares below & on top of the meat so it doesn't creep up into the gap around the edge of the top of the press. I have a paper trimmer that I use for scrap booking/pictures so I cut my own 6" squares & store them in a plastic container. It works really well. You place a wax paper square on the base, add meat, place another paper square on top & close the lid. Peal off the paper & pick up the burger patty. You can reuse the paper squares several times before changing them out. And since the paper keeps the meat from touching the press clean up is simply a quick wipe with a wet rag. There's a screw you turn on the top to adjust the plate inside the lid, up to 4 1/2" thick so you can choose how thick you want your burgers. The only thing I don't like is that the measurements are difficult to read on the top of the press. I've had this for 5 years & it still works like new.
