Fire it up!
This seems to be a good fire pit considering the cost and it is easy to assemble. It is my first fire pit and my friends, family and I are really enjoying it. The setup instructions recommend putting sand in the bottom of the pit to insulate the area below the pit and to protect the pit against the corrosive nature of the ashes. While I fully agree with the use of the sand, the ash gets mixed into the sand making it nesassary to remove sand during the ash clean up. My way of improvising is to set FIRE bricks into the sand.
Easy>>> 1. cover the bottom of the pit with sand (1-2 inches deep) 2. Smoothe out sand creating a flat surface. 3. Lay the bricks in place in a tight pattern. the bricks. I used measured 4"x8"x1". 9 or 10 bricks this size covers most of the bottom. 4. Fill in the voids with sand to the height of the bricks. Now you have a flat surface that you can sweep the ashes off of. We have had seveal fires in this pit and it's great. Comes with a poker, a cooking grate and a spark screen. Fire it up! It's August 21, 2017 and the fire pit is still in good shape
