Aerovoir AND The Right Stand Will Eliminate Aerogarden Water Level Problems
I have three Aerogardens running and each has an AeroVoir installed as well. I will keep this review as simple as possible. And I promise you that if you set yours up the same way, you will have no water level issues. Look at my photos which will not only show you the setup, but how nice everything looks when it's together. All the gardens in the photos showing the Aerovoirs were planted less than 3 weeks. So please disregard the size of the plants. The additional photos you see are those same gardens only two weeks later. Anyway, this review has to do with the Aerovoirs and not the success of the Aerogardens themself :) As you will see in the photos, one Aerogarden is growing Tomatoes, another has Strawberries, and the final one is Lettuce. Believe me when I tell you, use one Aerovoir per Aerogarden. I would not try to run one Aerovoir for two Aerogardens. Of course this can be done successfully as I have done that before. However when you start using one towards two gardens, the water will be used up quickly. Now I know alot of people have noted here that even with the Aerovoir connected, they still have issues with the water level. I had that problem too, and went thru alot of testing before I finally found the PERFECT solution. Originally, I had the Aerovoir just sitting on my countertop. The water level in my Aerogarden would remain too low. I tried elevating the Aerovoir by placing a book under it. The water level was too high. I then tried adding sheets of cardboard. After stacking a few pieces, I found the proper height needed. However, it looked pretty damn ugly having cardboard pieces under my Aerovoir. So I started to search on Amazon for a stand that would hold my Aerovoir to be the proper height in order to maintain the right water level. And I wanted something that looked nice and fit the circumference of the Aerovoir. And this is the stand that you will need: PEDESTAL STAND: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000OR7HI2. PLEASE NOTE: That pedestal stand gives your AEROVOIR the perfect height to keep the water level in your Aerogarden but NOT the Strawberry Grow Bowl. If you are going to use the Grow Bowl, just let your Aerovoir rest on your table / countertop. It does not need to be elevated. Believe me when I tell you; if you elevate the Aerovoir when using the Strawberry Garden, your water will overflow. Now onto Algae. Yes these bottles will accumulate some algae inside especially when using tap water. Honestly, there's not much you can do to prevent this. However, when it does grow, this is how I handle it. If you have the $$ to spend, pickup an extra bottle. You don't need the buy a whole new Aerovoir. The bottle Aerogarden sells a 'No Spill Watering Jug' that is the same bottle as the one used in the Aerovoir. All you do is unscrew the cap and reuse the same cap from the Aerovoir. I also picked up this handy Magnetic Spot Scrubber by Cuisipro: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CFIKM2Q. And finally I picked up some Algaecide: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000P6B28S. The Algaecide is optional. If you want to use Vinegar or Soap instead, by all means that should work too. Anyway, I have an extra jug that I keep on hand. When one of my Aerovoir Jugs starts to accumulate algae, I replace it with the jug I have on standby. I then take the Algae bottle, fill it with warm water, and mix it with 4 drops of Algaecide. I let the bottle sit for a few days so it breaks down the algae. After a few days, I take my magnetic scrubber, drop it into the bottle, and scrub the remaining algae off the bottle. I then wash the bottle with some soap, use a bottle scrubber like this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008HMF9LS, then store the jug away. And the next time I have an Aerovoir bottle that has built up some algae, I do the same process again. Now if you don't want to wait a few days with the bottle sitting in water and algaecide, you can just use soap and/or vinegar and scrub the bottle immediately. You will never get the bottle perfectly clean from algae stains, especially around the handle area inside the jug. But you will clean it almost perfectly and will be very happy with the outcome. Others will say they cleaned the inside by using vinegar and shaking the bottle with uncooked rice. Others may use tiny stainless steel balls instead of rice. There are many ways to clean the inside of the Aerovoir. I am sharing with you what works for me. And it's pretty simple to do and the accessories don't cost much $$$ to get. If you have any questions, feel free to post them and I'd be glad to answer the best I can. But again, if you want to eliminate any water level issues with your Aerogarden, I hope you consider what I use above. The pedestal stand is the perfect height and fits the Aerovoir just fine. Plus, it looks nice with my setup. The Aerovoir is an important part of my setup to successfully grow my gardens and by eliminating the worry of running low on water for extended periods of time. Happy Holidays!
