I purchased the oiled bronze version, which has a light switch on the base. I love this thing. At first I felt the lighting was a little too dim, but it's actually perfect - I use this in an almost pitch dark room in the morning, and it's a perfect level of light. Not so bright that it's difficult to look into it, but not so dim that you can't see... well, everything. Which brings me to the one fallback of this mirror. The backside with the 7x magnification has a serious problem where every time I look at it, some weird looking troll seems to be living inside of it staring back at me. Avoid this side of the mirror, as it will suck up way too much time in the morning staring aghast at this image, trying, in vain, to fix it. And pray that no one ever sees you at 7x magnification, egads. My advice? Buy the mirror, but don't look at the 7x side. It will just be depressing.
