Pleasantly surprised!!
I currently use a Blu Energy XL, $299 phone and I love it (see my review). I bought this Blu Studio XL2 for my friend, low budget but wanted a 6" screen like mine. Received and setup quickly. Here's my initial review:
Pros:
1) Look & Feel: Excellent, included case fits perfectly (but see "con" below), screen is beautiful.
2) Processor: Biggest surprise, quicker than expected (given quad-core). Didn't game and he doesn't plan to, but maps, apps launch & react perfectly.
3) SIM & SD slots: Unlike some other phones, you can have 2 SIMs (micro SIM so if you have a nano card, you'll need an adaptor like I did) AND an SD card. Some use the 2nd SIM slot for either/or SIM/SD. Excellent.
4) Bloatware: Some installed, games, can delete. A couple other apps can't delete but can disable (ie: "Start app")
5) OS: Android 6.0, I install Nova launcher, worked great. Doesn't seem that different from 5.1. No issues.
6) LTE: Using T-Mobile, got LTE without any settings manipulation. Has more bands than my Blu Energy for < half the price.
7) Notification Light: Yes, only Blue color, but just having it in a $134 phone is great!
8) Memory: 2G RAM seemed low, but usage rarely got > 1GB. Weird since my 3GB Blu Energy is always using 2GB RAM. Must be internal Android memory management going on. Nonetheless, 2GB seems fine. 16GB ROM is low, but SD slot can help with that.
9) Photos are good, especially considering the low cost of this phone. Selfie front flash is cool.
10) Battery: Removing the back case to insert the SIM & SD card, you can see the huge battery (not removable). Seems very good but haven't spent enough time yet to get a full review of how long it lasts. 4800mAhr is big!
11) Sound: Haven't used the headphones yet or listened to music, but sound from notifications & calls was clear & loud.
12) WiFi: Connected quickly & easily. Didn't run a speed test, but was fast.
Cons:
1) Very strange micro-USB power/sync port on TOP of the phone. For people who charge while driving and have the phone in a cradle in portrait, this is not good. This is OK for my friend, but would be a show stopper for me. Who wants a cable sticking out the TOP of the phone???
2) OS storage management: Strange, only two choices, use internal or external storage. Other phones let me dig in and customize what I want on internal vs. external (SD). Went thru the camera settings, nothing in there to say "Use SD for photos" either.
3) With the included case on, the power button is covered. It loses it's feedback & feel. Pushing the power button is a hit or miss with the case on. No big deal, but worth noting.
4) The home/back/recent buttons aren't part of the case, they're embedded on the bottom of the screen. This takes up real estate on the screen, as it pushes up your dock. Must be a cost issue, and a good tradeoff for price vs. function, but worth noting.
Summary: I'm really amazed at what you get here for the money. My other Blu phone is now 6 months old, still working great, hope this one lasts too. I recommend this phone for a medium usage person who wants LTE, a big, bright, great looking screen and alot of functionality for a low price.
