I like this lamp and I want to love it, but I can't quite. Here's what I like: 1) It puts out lots of light. 2) The design is slim, elegant, and minimalist. I don't need or want my floor lamps to be a fashion statement. 3) The controls are easy to use. 4) The tilting head is a nice feature. Here's what's OK: 1) The light is a bit cooler than the halogen it's replacing. Don't get me wrong... it's not the horrible blue light that was common in LED bulbs a few years ago. It's OK, but I wish the light was a touch warmer. 2) The lamp stands 67" tall, to our existing lamps's 71". That doesn't sound like much, but I'm 6'2" and those 4 inches mean that I often get the bright light right in my eyes, especially if I use the tilt feature. I wish the lamp was a few inches taller. Here's what doesn't work for us: 1) The description says the lamp shouldn't be used on a switched outlet. That is correct. Don't do it. The lamp takes 2-5 seconds to turn on when the switch is flipped. We thought that would be OK, but it isn't. A torchiere lamp is a natural for use with a wall switch. You walk into a dark room, flip the switch, and the BIG LAMP comes on and lights up the room. Again, there's no misrepresentation on Brighttech's part... they say the lamp is not compatible with switched outlets... but I really, really wanted it to be OK.
