Came with firmware 1.03 and that prevents 4k blu rays from being read. Beware!
After research, firmware 1.02 will allow reading of 4k UHD blu ray movies but not 1.03. LG has done this on purpose to prevent reading of that medium. Regular blu rays are fine but as a disc author I had a copier with 6 of them that had v1.02 in it so I swapped this new one with the old one and it reads 4k UHD movies just fine. Just beware firmware version 1.03, it makes your drive spin down and go idle when it detects a 4k UHD movie in the drive - won't detect it in any way!
