4.5 stars - because there's a bit of a learning curve for positioning halves for quarters. (tip: get something small and pointed to help you place them, like a toothpick. I used a pen cap the first time) I bought this to cut medications for a 5 lb, 18 yr old cat. So I'm having to cut lots of already tiny pills into quarters. All the other cutters I tried resulted in odd sizes, crushing or pill dust. I eventually gave up trying to find one that works and for the last couple of years have just cut the pills by hand with a sharp pairing knife. Recently he was put on another medication that just turned into dust when I tried to cut it into quarters. For one pill, instead of 4, I was lucky if I got 2 good doses, So I resumed my search for a pill cutter and settled on this. It does a very good job on those pills. I got a tiny bit of crushing but for the most part, 4 good does. I expect the crushing will disappear with experience and practice with hand placement on the top/blade and the right amount of pressure. Anyway, glad I got it. Pill cutting goes much faster now. It's also great for holding capsules in place for filling. Empty ones waiting to be filled. Or filled ones waiting to be topped.
