Fan works great - controller is great
Fan works great - controller is great. The controller appears to be able to control multiple fans, however I don't see anywhere that you can order just a fan without the controller to fill that second spot. Build quality is great, packaging is nice - I only wish that it had some anti vibration technology in the mount because, while the fan is quiet, it does resonate through whatever it's connected to. I have mine cooling a server room in my home and it's mounted to a floor joist - when you run it full blast in free air it makes little noise but attached to my floor joist, it sounds like there is a vacuum in our foyer (above where the fan is installed). Update 6/2/2018 - Still love this unit but I think the "Smart Mode" could be a little smarter. In smart mode, you set a desired temperature and then you set a temp range of 2-4 degrees. If the maximum operating speed is 3/5, and you have a 4 degree range, and have the thermostat set at 78, then at 70 it would be running at speed 1, 74, speed 2, and 78 or greater would be speed 3. The problem is the shoulder temperatures... there is no kickdown range, so once you hit, say 74 degrees you go to speed 2 and then if you almost immediately come back down to 73 you go to speed 1. The end effect is that the fan ends up oscillating around a certain temperature where it ramps up for a couple seconds, then back down, then back up, then back down - I have it mounted on floor joists in a server closet, so that noise transmits through the house. White noise can be disregarded, but a constantly modulating fan (up, down, up down, up down) with only 4 or 5 second gaps is a huge annoyance and makes me forgoe the smart mode altogether.... I wish there were temp thresholds like there are on a home thermostat. Update 7/30/2018 - despite using anti vibration mounting hardware on the floor joists - the hum transmitted from the fan became annoying. I have now installed eyelets on two adjacent floor joists and suspended the fan unit using four short bungee cords. Two go under the unit and two go over it, effectively suspending the unit in the middle of the space trapped between two bungee cords. This has resulted in almost zero hum / vibration noise being transmitted to the floor joists and has significantly quieted the unit down.
