Great alternative to buying $350 QC35s
I was looking at several options for wireless headsets. My ultimate requirements were, great sound, good battery life, bluetooth and noise canceling. I could solve my problems by dropping $350 on the Bose QC35s and call it a day. Alas, I didn't want to do that, since my QC25s are perfect and the best headphones I've ever owned. I came across this adapter after a few searches, and looking at another product, the Btunes adapter for $99. Reviews on the Btunes were ok, but only 18 at the time of my search. What turned me away was the size and shape of it. It was huge, bulky and stuck out like a sore thumb. Then I found the AirMods, the shape was genius, they blended right in with the headset. At $59, they were a steal compared to buying new cans or the Btunes adapter. When they arrived, I tried them straight away. They charge via an included usb to 2.5mm adapter which connects to the jack which goes into the headphone. The red/green LED indicator is a bit hard to see if you're not looking at it straight on, but they are there and functional. It took about 2 hours to fully charge from whatever level it was in the box. The instruction card was very well written, clear and concise. I plugged them into the headphones, and they fit PERFECTLY. Fired them up, pairing was super simple, just as the instructions said and they connected in no time. They show up as a headset on my iPhone 7 and function exactly as if they were hard wired. I can select them as a source when listening to music in several apps, and it plays flawlessly. The sound is great, I mean come on, it's Bose. I could not tell any difference in sound quality between this and the standard wire. I haven't tested the range of the bluetooth yet, but so far, 15-20 feet walking around the house has been just fine. I've also paired them to my desktop windows 10 computer and used them while flying in X-Plane, and they worked great here as well. It was an even more immersive experience using these headphones vice my standard desktop speakers. Shortly after I received them, I went on a short business trip. Starting out with a full charge, I listened to an audio book while waiting at the airport, and on 2 flights, including the 45 min worth of layover time, so lets call it about 4 hours mostly non-stop. Paused and played, adjusted volume and even turned completely off a few times, all from the headphones. Controls are stellar, though can be hard to tell volume down and play/pause and play/pause from power, just by feel, but I imagine I'll do better as I use them more. Some braille like nubs on the different buttons would have been helpful, but lets be honest, I'm not returning these suckers because they don't have bumps on the buttons. All of the control buttons are rather close together, so it just takes some getting used to, but functionally, they all work as advertised. The power on/off can sometimes take a few seconds, and I find myself double checking that LED indicator just to be sure I'm not putting them away w/ the battery still on. They also fit perfectly into the OEM Bose hardshell case for the QC25s. NO need to remove the AirMod adapter to put away in the case. I stick the charging adapter in the back pocket along w/ the OEM cable and a spare pair of Apple EarPods and I'm all set. Battery life - Again, I charged them to full charge prior to leaving for the airport on monday afternoon. Listened for about 4 hours on monday, some on tuesday then Wednesday morning for the trip home. I'd say I got about another 3 hours out of them before they died, about 30 min before my flight landed (of course). Brought them to the sky club and plugged them in using the ole white iPhone usb brick and let them charge up for about an hour or so while I ate lunch and did some work. Plenty of juice for the ride home and then some. I also experimented by charging them with my Anker portable 10000mA power bank, and that worked just fine as well. Minimal interference issues experience. Only one of note so far has been while I was walking through the concourse in ATL, phone in my pocket streaming an audiobook and noise canceling on, I had a bit of interference but when I pulled it out of my pocket, it went away in 10 seconds or so. With the amount of wireless devices in close proximity, I'm blaming it on being bombarded with wireless signals in that area. Back in the pocket and continued my track with no issues. Overall, I'm very pleased so far. They work exactly as a bluetooth headset should, quick connect, easy controls, solid sound and decent battery life. Maybe one day I'll break down and buy the QC35's but today is not that day. This little gadget truly looks like it was meant to be on these headphones from day one. Sleek, stylish, functional and saved me $. I might just send it a Christmas Card this year, it's the least I can do, right?
