I’ve spent the last 3 years tracking down this Soy Sauce, ever since my husband mentioned that no commercial soy sauce compares to the one he use to have at his grandfathers home in Fukuoka. My husband had no idea of who made it, but remembered it fondly as he was told how it was brewed the correct way and it’s taste is far superior to anything he’s had since. With literally nothing but basic knowledge of Japan, I had resigned myself to a fruitless search for this nameless soy sauce. Until I randomly came across a short video documentary about Yamaroku and how they were carrying on the traditional way of brewing soy sauce. On a whim I looked it up and to my delight Amazon carried bottles, I ordered immediately on the off chance that this is the brand is the one ojiisan had used for decades- Once it arrived I explained this all to my husband who was excited but skeptical. And then the bottle sat- for weeks, unopened, as this was far more of an investment than my husband was comfortable with for a condiment that may or may not be the one he’s dreamed about for years. I was finally able to convince my husband to come up with a meal fit for finally opening the bottle of Yamaorku- he settled on grilled fresh mackerel, a favorite his grandfather use to prepare. Let me tell you, it was worth the wait. Watching the look of delight wash over my husbands face as he realized this was the taste of his childhood was absolutely priceless. This simple purchase is by far the best thing I’ve ever bought on Amazon, and we will absolutely purchase it again!
