Modded for moisture issue
I live in the Florida panhandle and I have owned two of these locks for more than one year. One lock on our front entry door and one at our back door. The front door gets the full heat of the day from sunrise until about 11am, used quite frequently and shows zero signs of wear, the code has not been changed since we set it and there are no signs that those 4 numbers are the only ones touched. The batteries on the front door last for 6 months.
The back door is shaded and since it's under the lanai it can get quite humid(sprinkler system and frequent rain showers. The batteries would only last about 2 weeks on the back door. I removed the battery cover and noticed moisture on the underside of the cover. I pulled the battery holder and let everything dry out for a couple of days. I put in fresh batteries but I purposely left the battery cover off thus leaving a way for moisture to escape...now the batteries last for 5 months. It does look a little tacky without a battery cover on but some science experiments aren't pretty. I decided to mod my battery cover so that I could hide my batteries, wires and keep little fingers away. I used a silver marker, patterned some spots, drill pilot holes, then bored to size. Guess I fixed Schlage's issue with moisture cause my mod worked(see pic).
